Formula used
Trench volume = length × width × depth. Loose volume = trench volume × (1 + bulking %).
Example
A 50m trench, 0.6m wide and 1.2m deep gives 36m³ in-situ. With 20% bulking, loose material is 43.2m³.
Important note
This does not account for battered sides, trench boxes, overbreak, pipe bedding, manholes or disposal classification.
